RED Forges Two New Deals

RED Distribution has signed distribution deals with two L.A.-based labels, Avatar Records and Kalimba Records. The first release under the Avatar deal is "NVA (National Vinyl Association) Straight From the Crates," with exclusive tracks by Mos Def, Dilated Peoples, the Pharcyde, Jurassic 5, D12, and

others. Also planned this year are Avatar sets by rapper Planet Asia, soul singer Kaisha Jones, and gospel act FONS.

Kalimba--formed in 2000 as part of Earth, Wind & Fire founder Maurice White's Kalimba Productions--will release a new album by the legendary group, "The Promise," on May 20.
