Ashanti, Musiq, and B2K were the big winners at the 17th annual Soul Train Awards, held Saturday night at Los Angeles' Pasadena Civic Auditorium, with two honors each. Ashanti won best female R&B/soul single and album; Musiq was the male winner in the same categories. B2K took home awards for best
R&B/soul album and single by a group, band, or duo.
Also among the winners were Amerie, for best R&B/soul or rap new artist, and Nelly, for R&B/soul or rap album of the year. Nelly was also presented with the Sammy Davis Jr. Award for entertainer of the year. Mariah Carey and LL Cool J received the Quincy Jones Award for outstanding career achievement.
The awards were co-hosted by Queen Latifah and Arsenio Hall. Winners were determined by radio programmers, artists, and retailers.
