The Canadian Recording Industry Assn. (CRIA) has dramatically lowered its certification levels for CD singles. Gold certification is now awarded for shipments of 5,000 units, vs. the previous 50,000; platinum is 10,000, vs. 100,000; and diamond is 100,000 units, vs. 1 million.

Says

CRIA president Brian Robertson, "We thought it was prudent to amend the levels to more accurately reflect the retail marketplace."
