Norway Student Fined Over Links To Download Sites

A Norwegian court last week fined a student over a Web site that contained links to unauthorized music sites, in what is understood to be the first case of its kind in the country.

Frank Allan Bruvik, 24, was convicted of copyright infringement for linking his site, Napster.no, to others containing illegal music; however, he was acquitted of another charge of being responsible for the illegal copying of music. The action was brought by the IFPI, together with Norwegian rights society TONO, the Nordic Copyright Bureau, EMI, BMG Entertainment, Sony Music, and Universal Music.

Bruvik was ordered to pay 100,000 Norwegian krone ($14,520), about one-fifth of the estimated losses claimed by the plaintiffs.
