AOL Time Warner has named current CEO Dick Parsons to fill the newly combined chairman/CEO post. The move will take effect at the annual shareholder meeting May 16. The appointment comes just four days after chairman Steve Case said he would step down (Bulletin, Jan. 14).

Formerly

president of Time Warner, Parsons became co-COO after the merger with AOL, with oversight of Warner Music Group and the company's other content businesses. Parsons became CEO upon the resignation of his former boss, Gerald Levin, in May 2002. (WMG chairman/CEO Roger Ames now reports to Jeff Bewkes, chairman of AOL TW's entertainment and networks group.)

AOL TW stock closed yesterday up six cents at $15.30.
