Seven Set For Canadian Song Hall Induction

Seven Canadian songwriters and 22 songs will be honored at the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame (CSHF) 2nd Annual Gala to be held Feb. 8 in Toronto.

Guess Who members Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings, who will perform at the gala, will be inducted, as will legendary Quebec songwriters Claude Léveillée and Raymond Lévesque. Also to be inducted are ragtime writer Shelton Brooks, country songwriter Bob Nolan of the Sons of the Pioneers, and chansonnier Serge Deyglun.

Among the CSHF's 22 song inductions will be Buffy Sainte-Marie's "Universal Soldier," Camille Andréa's "En veillant su'l perron," the Guess Who's "American Woman" and the national anthem "O Canada."

Former RPM Weekly publisher Walt Grealis and Stan Klees, who were instrumental in inspiring the country's Canadian content regulations, will receive CSHF Legacy Awards along with Quebec folklorist Ernest Gagnon. CSHF founder Frank Davies is the 2005 Special Achievement Award recipient.

Performers slated for the gala include Ian Tyson, Saint-Marie, Quartette, Joe Sealy, Colin James, Shaye, Jackie Richardson, Marie-Denise Pelletier, Luce Dufault and Eric Lapointe.
