ARIAs To Continue Despite Fire
The Australian Record Industry Association (ARIA) awards is to go ahead on Oct. 19 despite a fire destroyed the studios of the gala's producers.
The fire broke out Wednesday (Oct. 6) at Roving Enterprises' Abbotsford, Melbourne facilities, causing an estimated A$2 million ($1.44 million) damage. The fire destroyed all the computer graphics, props, costumes and preproduction material for the ARIAs, according to a spokesman.
At a meeting Thursday (Oct. 7) in Sydney with ARIA executives, Roving Enterprise's executive managing director Craig Campbell emphasized that the work would be replaced in time. "But it's like replacing somebody's wedding photos," he said. Campbell is executive producer of the awards.
The ARIAs are to be held at the Sydney SuperDome, and televised on the free to air Ten Network to an estimated audience of 1.8 million-2 million viewers. It will be hosted by Roving Enterprise's chairman, TV host Rove McManus.
Among those performing on the night are Jet, who is nominated in seven categories, and Delta Goodrem, who is in the running for four awards. This year, the classical and jazz categories will be announced at a stand-alone Fine Arts event at Government House in Sydney on Tuesday (Oct. 12).
