Vivendi Universal confirms it is considering cutting corporate staffers. A spokesperson says that in recent months, VU "has been studying ways in which to develop the combined Paris/New York headquarters into a much more efficient organization." Cuts at Universal Music Group are not currently being considered,

the spokesperson says.

Sources say that as part of ongoing cost-cutting efforts, VU is weighing a report from consulting firm Constantin Group that recommends cutting 130 of 200 corporate posts in New York and 100 of 370 in Paris. It also may shift employees to other divisions. Human resources, investor relations, and corporate communications are among the main New York departments.

VU stock closed yesterday up 1.37 euros at 17.08.
