U.K.'s Tornado Takes Stake In Video-On-Demand Venture

U.K.-based digital service provider Tornado Virtue plc has acquired a 25% stake in music-video on-demand venture VidZone. The deal comes on the heels of Tornado Group's acquisition of Virtue Broadcasting Ltd., creating the enlarged Tornado Virtue operation (Bulletin, May 30).

return for the stake in VidZone, Tornado will provide technical and business infrastructure, offices, and administrative services.

VidZone is available in Europe as part of RealNetworks' European RealOne SuperPass subscription service (Bulletin, June 20). It plans to go live as a stand-alone service at www.vidzone.tv later in the year. VidZone claims to have struck licensing deals with four of the five major U.K. record companies.
