MCA and the U.K.'s Ministry of Sound (MoS) have confirmed that they have signed an exclusive North American licensing deal (Bulletin, June 12). Under the agreement, they will launch a joint-venture compilation imprint that will release dance-music repertoire from both labels. In addition, MCA will have
right of first refusal to position certain MoS artists under the joint MoS/MCA banner.
Barney Glover, MoS GM of North America, tells Bulletin his company will continue to drive its own marketing and promotion activities, while working with MCA. No staff cuts are expected.
MoS had a short-term U.S. distribution deal with RED that ended in February; the company continues to have an exclusive vinyl distribution deal with New York-based Satellite.
As previously reported, the first MoS/MCA release is Fatboy Slim's "Live on Brighton Beach," due June 25; the partnership expects to issue 4-6 compilations by year's end. MoS acts include Fischerspooner, Louise, Bent, and iio.
