The Reader's Digest Assn. has eliminated the jobs of at least three veteran staffers in its North American books and home entertainment division, as part of a planned restructuring (Bulletin, April 22). It is unclear how many other jobs may have been lost.

Those known

to be affected are director of A&R Ira Howard, executive producer/director of recordings Jenny Hudson, and senior music editor Gary Theroux. All three have been at the company more than 20 years.

The move, part of plan to cut back on direct-mail and sweepstakes offers and shift concentration to music sold via direct-response TV, "does not affect our commitment to the music business," says a spokesperson. The company aims to expand its TV offerings in the next year to up to 10 titles.
