Webcasters, artists, music-union reps, and SoundExchange members spent yesterday on Capitol Hill visiting key lawmakers on the eve of a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing titled "Copyright Royalties: Where Is the Right Spot on the Dial For Webcasting?" Top of the agenda for record companies and artists' groups is fair compensation for labels and artists for the music they release; Webcasters are calling for the lowering of suggested rates and simplification of record-keeping requirements proposed by the Copyright Arbitration Royalty Panel (Bulletin, March 13).

Panelists for today's hearing are expected to include RIAA chairman/CEO Hilary Rosen; artist Dan Navarro; Digital Media Assn. president John Potter; and Frank Schliemann, founder of Webcast service Onion Radio. The Recording Artists Coalition has submitted written testimony.
