Top book for babies
Illustrator Alex Ayliffe has won the Sainsbury's Baby Book Award 2000 with Boo Barney, from her series of Busy Baby board books published by Orchard Books.
The panel of judges was "unanimous" in its choice of the winner, says chairwoman Wendy Cooling.
Bookstart, the programme that aims to provide parents of every seven to nine-month-old baby with free "starter" books, was sponsored during 2000 by supermarket giant Sainsbury, but the chain announced this autumn that it would not continue its sponsorship of the awards. Event administrator Book Trust is currently seeking a new sponsor.
