Amazon global bestsellers

Internet retailer Amazon has collated sales from its various territories to produce what it claims is the first truly worldwide bestseller list for the Economist magazine.

Leading the first list based on March sales is the Japanese edition of J K Rowling's Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix—which claims poll position on pre-publication orders alone. Second is Richard Clarke's controversial Against All Enemies: Inside America's War on Terror, published in both the US and the UK by Simon & Schuster. Another transatlantic hit—Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code (Corgi)—is third in a list dominated by US titles.

The Economist's list is based on worldwide sales from Amazon's six websites in Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the UK and the US and will be updated each month.
