LIBF reports record year

Attendance figures for the London International Book Fair were 6% up on last year to 13,000. Of that, 8,656 visitors were from the UK. Overseas attendance rose 8% to 4,266. The number of booksellers attending grew 8% to 2,849. There were 118 first-time exhibitors.

Specialist

events and areas also did well. The number registered at the International Rights Centre rose 7% to 357. The size of the Publishers' Printing and Services area increased by 50%, and covered 860 metres.

The organisers were confident that the first London International Book Fair of the new millennium would be equally well attended. Patrick McLaughlin, sales manager, said that 24% of exhibiting space had already been sold.
