S&S first with yachting book
Simon & Schuster US claims it has scored a publishing industry first with the publication of Knockdown: The Harrowing True Account of a Yacht Race Turned Deadly. It is to be produced through on-demand printing and in e-book form six weeks ahead of its hardcover sale date.
The
move will enable S&S to outstrip three rival publishers with books due on the 1998 Sidney-to-Hobart yachting race disaster. "Even on an accelerated schedule, the hardcover wouldn't be able to reach bookstore shelves until September," Judith Curr, president and publisher of Pocket Books, told BPR.
The electronic versions of the book will be available from Softbooks Press and Rocket eBook maker NuvoMedia next month. On-demand copies can be ordered through Ingrams' Lightning Print, Replica Books and Sprout Inc.
