OUP wins radical science

Oxford University Press has won the contract to publish teaching materials for a radical overhaul of the GCSE science curriculum.

The pilot 21st Century Science curriculum, developed by the University of York and the Nuffield Curriculum Centre, aims to help students

understand science as something that affects decisions in everyday life.

OUP will work in collaboration with BBC Worldwide (video and audio) and software company 3T Productions to produce a battery of electronic resources, including animation and a course management system, as well as student textbooks and teacher materials. It aims to have a third of the material ready for schools by this summer.

If the pilot is successful, the changes may become part of the main science curriculum in 2006.
