The 1999 Forward Prize shortlists for poetry have been announced. Shapcott for My Life Asleep (OUP).
Shortlisted for the £5,000 Waterstones Prize for Best First Collection are: Matthew Caley for Thirst (Slow Dancer Press), Amanda Dalton for How to Disappear (Bloodaxe), Nick Drake for The Man in the White Suit (Bloodaxe), Christopher North for A Mesh of Wires (Smith/Doorstop) and Christiania Whitehead for The Garden of Slender Trust (Bloodaxe).
Shortlisted for the £1,000 Forward Prize for Best Single Poem are: Caroline Carver for "Horse Under Water", Robert Crawford for "Zero", Robert Minhinnick for "Twenty-five Laments for Iraq", George Szirtes for "Backwaters: Norfolk Fields" and R S Thomas for "Blackbird". The winners will be announced on 6th October.
