Pamuk scoops IMPAC
Faber author Orhan Pamuk has won the 2003 international IMPAC Dublin literary award. The Turkish author took the €100,000 (£71,300) award for his novel My Name Is Red.
Encore for
Gavron
The £10,000 Encore Award for best second novel, run by the Society of Authors, has been given to Jeremy Gavron for The Book of Israel (Scribner).
Recipes for success
This year's Glenfiddich Food Book award has been won by David Thompson for Thai Food (Pavilion); the Drink Book went to John and Erica Platter for Africa Uncorked (Kyle Cathie).
New sharpened Arrow
Arrow introduces a new logo on its books and promotional material from the beginning of June. The logo is part of a drive to raise the trade profile of the Random House imprint. See page 31.
Waterstone's awards
Waterstone's gave awards at its annual managers' conference this week: Elyse Goldsworthy won branch manager of the year for Bluewater West, while Lynn Wilson of Manchester Airport won bookseller of the year. Branch of the year awards went to Bath, Telford and Hull University.
