Zwemmer soldiers on
Zwemmer has reopened its two shops on Charing Cross road, following their repossession last week by agents for landlord Soho Housing Association. The 12-strong chain has been forced to change its cost structure to cope with rent hikes. Ed Horne,

HC rushes Iraq book
HarperCollins is claiming the first book on the war in Iraq after winning rights to publish Thirty Days, an account of Tony Blair's involvement by TLS editor Peter Stothard. It will publish in paperback at £7.99 on 7th July. HarperCollins UK and US acquired the book in a joint deal with Ed Victor.
Orange opens poll
The Orange Prize for Fiction is to run a spin-off survey to find the 50 most popular books by female authors, in a scheme promoted though libraries and on Classic FM. The 50 titles will be announced in May in the run-up to the ceremony on 3rd June.
Priest takes sf prize
At the British National Science Fiction Convention, the British Science Fiction Association award for best novel went to Christopher Priest for The Separation (Scribner). Neil Gaiman won the award for best short fiction, for his children's story Coraline (Bloomsbury).
