Borders tries on uniforms for size

The new shirts will be red in colour, with a long and short sleeve option. Borders said it would make staff more visible to customers on the shop floor.

At the end of the pilot the success of the scheme will be evaluated, and any necessary improvements made, before

introducing it into all Borders stores.

David Roche, c.e.o., said: "There are many reasons why I feel this is a good time to pilot this scheme. By implementing a standard uniform, which has already happened successfully in the Republic of Ireland and Heathrow, this will improve the visibility of all our employees and therefore drive the satisfaction of our customers. Booksellers and managers alike have responded to the concept of having a uniform exceptionally well, believing it will have the desired results."
