Taylor & Francis eyes new deal

Taylor & Francis was believed to be on the brink of agreeing another of its trademark bolt-on acquisitions this week, taking it to a total of three so far this year.

The deal was rumoured to be in the social science arena, possibly to enlarge RoutledgeCurzon, the

Asian and Middle Eastern studies imprint. The company has divulged no details. T&F's share price spiked briefly last week, settling at 485p as The Bookseller went to press.

David Smith, c.e.o., and Roger Horton, books m.d., were unavailable for comment. T&F has so far made good on its promise of last year to continue the momentum of acquisition-based growth.

It paid £2.7m for Oxford-based independent Bios Scientific in February, and made a transforming US deal with the £60m buyout of CRC Press in April. Curzon Press was bought by T&F in 2001 and integrated into its social science division.
