Two-Can snapped up by US publisher

Children's reference publisher Two-Can is to be acquired by Minnesota-based Creative Publishing International in an assets-only deal.

The sale was steered by David Smith, who as Egmont finance director oversaw Egmont's acquisition of Reed Children's Books in 1998.

CPI is a worldwide publisher of how-to books, with a nature, photography and wildlife list for adults and children under its NorthWord imprint. It will assume all of Two-Can's publishing properties, covering a list of 250 titles for three to 13-year-olds, and rebuild the publisher's UK operation.

CPI was attracted by Two-Can's multilingual strength. David Green, finance director of Two-Can's parent Zenith, said: "An organisation like CPI would make an ideal home for Two-Can." Two-Can was put up for sale in June (The Bookseller, 21st June).

Michael Eleftheriou, CPI president and c.e.o., said: "This acquisition is consistent with our objective to expand our juvenile line."
