Eason's, Ireland's largest bookseller, has agreed to supply its sales data to Whitaker BookTrack. BookTrack will add data from Eason's branches and other bookshops in Northern Ireland into its Total Consumer Market (TCM) measure early next year. BookTrack said that it would now work towards the inclusion
of the Republic of Ireland.
Eason's has agreed to make its Remote Ordering System (EROS) BookTrack compliant, effectively adding sales data both from its own stores and from those Ulster independents that use EROS as their stock management system.
Jeremy Neate, BookTrack head of research and development, said: "UK publishers consider the [Northern] Irish market part of their territory. We are pleased we now have an agreement from the significant player in that market." Mr Neate said the information could be available by February.
Tom Owens, Eason Wholesale book director, said: "We are determined that Ireland is on board as far as the Eason group is concerned. We are working long term here for an all-Ireland concept."
The Eason group, which was founded in 1819, has 50 shops in total, including the 16 NPO bookshops it acquired in May.
