Paul Watkins was appointed general manager of the new 20,000 sq ft Coventry store which opened last Friday--Borders’ fourth new superstore this year. Mike Rawlings has been appointed general manager at Borders Leicester. The other two new graduates are Duncan Brownnutt, who takes over at Stockport, and

Antony Edwards, new general manager of Borders Kingston.

Launched last June, the "general manager designate" programme trains experienced senior managers from other retail sectors in the technical details of running a Borders superstore. It runs alongside an internal training programme giving leadership skills to senior Borders staff.

The company has also made several internal manager changes. It has promoted Sarah Harbon, general manager of Borders at Birmingham BullRing, to the role of group manager overseeing Bicester, Solihull and Trafford, in addition to her responsibilities in Birmingham. Matt Jameson, previously general manager at Leicester, has moved to Scotland to take over the Edinburgh-Kinnaird store from Carolyn Dempster, who has become general manager of the new Glasgow Fort store.

Paul Arnold, general manager at London Colney, will take over next week as general manager of the flagship Charing Cross Road store, as Sarah Osborne has moved to Islington. Alex Goatman has been appointed to replace Arnold at London Colney, and Dave Titchen takes over Goatman’s branch at Lakeside.
