Buxton, who runs a consultancy for working parents and is the author of Ending the Mother War (Macmillan, 1998), has written Lessons in Duck Shooting, about a divorced 30-something woman, Ally, struggling to bring up two young children, make a success of her job in marketing, and negotiate a complicated

love life. It is “a warm, funny, pageturning novel for anyone who enjoyed Allison Pearson’s I Don’t Know How She Does It and Kate Long’s The Bad Mother’s Handbook”.

Kate Elton bought the two books for Arrow from Euan Thorneycroft at Curtis Brown. In the US, the sale was made on Thorneycroft’s behalf by Christy Fletcher at Fletcher & Parry, to Allison Dickens at Ballantine. De Kern has Dutch rights. Publication will be in spring 2006.
