Scrivener out of Scholastic

By Caroline Horn
Publication: Bookseller
Date: Monday, December 13 2004
In a statement, Wilson praised Scrivener’s "leadership and inspiration", and said that Scholastic’s publishing division had "consistently been a highly profitable part of our business" She has already announced the creation of two imprints for fiction and picture/novelty books, headed up by her former

Macmillan colleagues Marion Lloyd and Alison Green respectively.

Scrivener joined Scholastic in 2000 from Puffin. His most successful authors have included Philip Reeve (Mortal Engines) in literary fiction and Karen McCombie (Ally’s World) in the mass market.

Scrivener said: "I am immensely proud of what I have achieved here at Scholastic. We have been short-listed for the Whitbread and the Smarties three times and won both, we completely revitalised the ’Horrible’ strand of our non-fiction publishing and sold a huge number of books along the way. I am sad to be leaving, but I’m sure Scholastic will go from strength to strength." He added: "I am looking forward to finding another role in the children’s books industry."
