National Poetry Day is set to celebrate its seventh anniversary on 5th October with a diverse line-up of events.
Highlights include the Forward Prize 2000 Poetry Award and the Simon Elvin Prize for the National Young Poets of the Year.
Despite
concerns that the media tends to ignore the event, BBC Radio 4 will broadcast a series of 14 sonnets, "The Windrose", which was commissioned especially for the day. BBC Knowledge TV will show a series of films based on a selection of the sonnets.
For the first time Poetry International, the UK's largest dedicated poetry festival, is planned to coincide with National Poetry Day.
One of the more offbeat promotions will take place in Cumbria, where car rental firms have agreed to put poems on passenger seats of all rental cars for a week.
