Police exposé in House of Commons row

McNulty said of Monday Books’ Wasting Police Time by PC David Copperfield--an exposé of life as an ordinary police officer--that "I would not believe PC David Copperfield either, because that is more of a fiction than Dickens".
Publisher Dan Collins has written to McNulty asking for

an apology and retraction, and letting him know that if he had spoken outside the House of Commons "my solicitors would be writing to you, as the statement was clearly defamatory of me as the book’s publisher".
"This is massively irritating," he said. "His statement was reported widely and could potentially affect sales. I would like him to correct it." McNulty has yet to respond.
Wasting Police Time has sold 2,287 copies through Nielsen BookScan since publication on 9th October, and a further 2,000 from Monday Books’ website. The book, based on Copperfield’s blog, has been receiving widespread publicity, with a Daily Mail serialisation, an interview in The Sunday Times and a "Newsnight" appearance. Copperfield will also be on "Panorama" in the new year.
