Roy Bloom to cease trading

The total amount owed to creditors is £400,000. The 35 year-old business collapsed after a last-minute injection of funds failed to save it. Its turnover was about £6m, of which two-thirds came through the retail outlets and the rest through the wholesale business. It has a full-time staff of 50.

The retail arm has 11 shops trading under the Bookcase banner, including one on the site of the former Waterstone’s on Charing Cross Road, London. Staff at the shops were told of the news on Tuesday, when closing down sale notices were posted on the windows. The stores will continue to trade, but not to buy new stock, while the future of the business is decided.
