o Tim Finn has been named president of Venator's U.S. Foot Locker chain, succeeding Jay Friedman who has resigned. Finn was previously head of Foot Locker International.
o Internet retailer Sportsite.com has changed its name to Fogdog Sports (www.fogdog.com), and has purchased competitor Sportscape.com.
o The Sports Authority reported Q3 sales of $367 million (+7.6%) with a comp-store decrease of 4.7%. Y-T-D, the chain has lost $64.8 million, or $2.04 per share, on sales of $1.1 billion. Promotional pressure figured heavily into the comp-store loss, said CEO Marty Hanaka.
o Just For Feet's Q3 net sales were up 72.5% to $226 million with a comp-store increase of 3.1%. Profits for the quarter increased 86.8% to a record $10 million.
o Retail sales tracker TeleCheck reported a 4.4% sales increase for the Friday after Thanksgiving, and a 3.0% increase for the weekend, meeting retailer expectations. The Midwest led the nation on "Black Friday" with a sales jump of 6.7%, while the Southeast led for the weekend with a 4.6% jump.
o Q3 net sales at Hibbett Sporting Goods rose 29.5% to $36 million, with a comp sales increase of 3.4%...JumboSports has retained Jefferies & Co. to assist in "evaluating strategic alternatives for a restructuring of its bond indebtedness." (Financial)
