Quiksilver announced its newest program, Quik Films, as well as plans to host a short film contest for aspiring filmmakers during the month of February. It is looking for short productions that resonate with the board riding lifestyle and the personality of the brand, but is not limiting submissions
to action-based content only.
Rob Colby, VP of Quiksilver Entertainment, said, "Quiksilver is all about individual style, expanding cultural horizons and demonstrating grace under pressure. We have always supported artists, personalities, and athletes who share these qualities. The Quik Films contest will bring our support system to an even broader audience of talented and creative kids around the country. We want to invite you to share your art with us. We'll show it to everyone we know and, if they dig it, we'll help you make more."
Scene7(R), provider of on-demand rich media platforms, announced that
Road Runner Sports, the running resource for shoes, apparel, accessories and information, is using Scene7 On-Demand (S7OD to add dynamic zoom, re-sizing and other rich media across its e-commerce website.
Said Peter Taylor, General Manager, Road Runner Sports. "We wanted to find a single rich media provider that could deliver all of our visual merchandising needs for our site now and in the future. Only Scene7 could offer the breadth of capabilities we needed, from dynamic zoom, sizing, personalization and templating all accessible through a single on-demand self-service platform. The on-demand solution had significant appeal to us as we are now able to control all the rich media publishing in-house with minimal IT or external vendor support and investment. With Scene7's highly-scalable and robust infrastructure, we can cost-effectively add zoom and colorizing to our entire site, across tens of thousands of products. In addition, Scene7's dynamic image re-sizing capabilities are helping us streamline our internal web production processes thereby reducing cost and time-to-market."
PrideSports promoted Harby Tran to director of marketing. Tran, who came to Pride in '05 and previously served as product marketing anager, will oversee all marketing initiatives for Softspikes-brand cleats and Pride Golf Tees.
UBS downgraded
Adidas-Salomon to neutral from buy on back of strong share performance. It sees investors taking a much more "realistic" view on potential synergies from the Reebok deal. Still, UBS upped its price target to EUR183 from EUR177. UBS doubts the World Cup will continue to serve as price catalyst, but said the "biggest positive surprise" could come from bullish management comments on Reebok synergies.
