It's a no brainer: Retailers can't stock SKUs of product that won't leave the shelf. Take ice fishing equipment, which is impacted by the weather.
"It's a crapshoot, pure and simple," says Jerry Lavoie, buyer for Kittery Trading Post, Kittery, Maine. "I usually program
orders in on a monthly basis and then add or subtract to it."
Kittery does well with ice fishing shelters from Frabill and The Clam (from USL Products), and tip-ups from 40-Up Tackle and Polar (from HT Enterprises).
At Maurice Sporting Goods, Northbrook, Ill., augers from Jiffy and StrikeMaster are selling well, says Randy Lemcke, general manager.
