Specialty Sports Venture Acquires GearDirect.com
Specialty Sports Venture, LLC acquired the online and catalog assets of GearDirect.com for undisclosed terms. Gear Direct.com will join SSV's current online properties, Rentskis.com and Buyskis.com. Geardirect.com?s management team will come aboard to manage SSV's new online and catalog. All online
properties will be available for consumer use by Oct. 15.
Kat Jobanputra, SSV's COO, said, "By acquiring Gear Direct.com we are excited about the brand extension this affords us as well as the additional retail opportunity. By SSV's infrastructure and proven management expertise with Geardirect.com, we are able to take the shopping experience to the next level. Also leveraging SSV's current partnerships with prime sporting goods vendors we can offer up to 70% off on closeout, new and inline equipment and clothing. Brand names never offered by any other online company."
GearDirect.com is one of the few original online specialty sporting goods stores that survived the recent carnage in the online sporting goods category. It built a multi-tiered approach, combining online and catalog sales with multiple retail outlets. "As SSV is one of the largest ski, snowboard, bike and outdoor retailer, this makes a natural fit," said John Siewierski, new director of SSV's E-Business division.
SSV currently operates more 80 specialty sports stores in Colorado to include Front Range locations: Colorado Ski and Golf, Grand West Outfitters, Boulder Ski Deals, Bicycle Village. Additionally SSV operates ski shops in Telluride, Aspen and Copper Mountain, as well as a fly-fishing shop in Basalt. Through a joint venture, SSV operates virtually all of Vail Resorts' retail and rental outlets at its four resorts in Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone.
