Have a Happy NaNoWriMo Thanksgiving!

I'm finally in the final stretch. I've written 35,000 words, which is more than I wrote in the whole month of November last year. I've got a little more than eight days to write 15,000 words?and I don't have to go to work four of those days. It will be interesting to see if I'll end up watching parades

and shopping rather than writing on those days off, but I'm confident I can crank out at least 2,000 words a day for the rest of the month.

Writing words #25,000 to #35,000 was a struggle. I'm a bit burned out, I've got to admit. Now that I've set up the story, I don't know where exactly to go before heading to the finish line. I've got to come up with some drama for Act 2. My editor suggests some kind of explosion.

Now that I've focused a lot on the two main sisters, I've been trying to go back a little each day and develop some of the peripheral characters a little more, especially in Katy's world of high school. That's been fun, especially since I usually end up flipping through my own yearbooks for inspiration for names, characteristics or storylines.

So, Thanksgiving is finally here. I finished up the two separate Thanksgiving scenes this week. One takes place in a hospital. The other is the older sister's first attempt at cooking Thanksgiving dinner for her friends. I will be participating in a form of the latter, as my friend's parents are flying in from Chicago for her third annual away-from-home Thanksgiving dinner. I'm bringing the green bean casserole!
