Shortlist Announced for Canada's Giller Prize

Finalists for Canada's richest literary award, the Scotiabank Giller Prize, were announced Tuesday, the Associated Press reported. Previous winners of the Giller Prize, which honors the best Canadian novel or short story collection, include Margaret Atwood, Michael Ondaatje and Mordechai Richler. The

award is named for the late literary journalist Doris Giller and was founded in 1994 by her husband, Jack Rabinovitch.

Rawi Hage's De Niro's Game, Vincent Lam's Bloodletting & Miraculous Cures, Pascale Quiviger's The Perfect Circle, Gaetan Soucyvwas' The Immaculate Conception and Carol Windlet's Home Schooling are all on the shortlist, the AP reported. The winner, who will receive $35,000, will be announced at an awards dinner on Nov. 7.
