Michael Schiavo, who until March was embroiled in the country's most contentious and public right-to-die debate, is currently shopping a book deal around New York, according to the
New York Post. He will be working on his account of the situation with David Ritz, who co-authored
Aretha: From These Roots
,
Divided Soul: The Life of Marvin Gaye, and edited
Elvis by the Presleys, with Priscilla and Lisa Marie Presley. He's represented by David Vigliano, of Vigliano Associates, who has in the past worked with other boldfaced names, like Jessica Simpson, Jayson Blair, Courtney Love, Alicia Keys, Dave Chappelle, Britney Spears, the late Pope John Paul II and Montgomery County Police Chief Charles Moose (of Washington, D.C., sniper fame).
The timing couldn't be better, since it appears the Schiavo story is here to stay?at least for a while. Schiavo's attempt to sell his book come just days after the June 15 release of Terri Schiavo's official autopsy, which confirmed that she had suffered irreversible brain damage and was in a persistent vegetative state, as her husband had asserted. Florida Gov. Jeb Bush responded to this news today by announcing that a prosecutor has agreed to investigate why Ms. Schiavo collapsed 15 years ago (though the autopsy also showed that there was no evidence of abuse), alleging that there is a possible 40?70-minute lapse between Ms. Schiavo's collapse and Mr. Schiavo's call to 911.
Ms. Schiavo died on March 31, at the age of 41.
The content of the book is as yet unclear, though Vigliano told the Post that he considers Schiavo's "the seminal case in the right-to-die-with-dignity story."
