Kombi Expands Base Layer Line for Winter Market

Essex Junction, Vt.--Glove maker Kombi is looking to the outdoor market to expand its base-layer business. "We used to be focused on the ski industry. Now we're going after the outdoor industry--the hikers, climbers and bikers," said Sean Meehan, sales product coordinator for Kombi base layers. "We see there's a lot more business outside of the ski industry." Kombi is bringing an expanded base-layer line to Outdoor Retailer Winter Market and expanding its SKUs to 12 from eight. Pieces in the 2002 line will include first layer, mid-weight and expedition weight offerings, Meehan said. Although Kombi will continue to focus on price point offerings, Meehan said it is also bringing new higher end pieces, including some that incorporate Malden Mills' Power Dry fabrics. Meehan noted that Kombi is one of the largest manufacturers of long underwear and turtlenecks in Canada, where its U.S. base-layer products also are made.
