Portland, Maine--Planet Dog Philanthropy will donate 10 percent of sales from Outdoor Retailer Winter Market to the California Wilderness Coalition.
Planet Dog Philanthropy is the non-profit, grant-making arm of dog product manufacturer Planet Dog. The philanthropy arm was created this year to provide
funds for groups that work to preserve the environment and promote animal welfare. The wilderness coalition, based in Davis, Calif., helps to protect California's pristine areas.
"As animal lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, it's important to Planet Dog to help in any way possible to protect land for the long-term survival of plants, animals and ultimately, all living creatures," said Alex Fisher, Planet Dog co-founder. "Our goal is to enable organizations like the California Wilderness Coalition to take innovative and creative approaches to protecting the environment."
Planet Dog launched its philanthropic arm at the 2001 Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, donating 10 percent of sales from the show to the Sierra Club. The company declined to specify the amount of its donation.
Winter Market will be Jan. 5-8 in Anaheim, Calif. The Outdoor Retailer trade shows are produced by VNU, which publishes Outdoor Retailer Magazine.
