Survey: Target, Wal-Mart among best holiday ads

Washington, D.C.—Target, Wal-Mart and Best Buy gave the top-three holiday television advertising campaigns this year, according to a new survey by Big Research for the Retail Advertising and Marketing Association.

Macy's, J.C. Penney, Big Lots, Kmart, Old Navy, Kohl's

and Gap also made the top-10 list of consumers' favorite TV ad campaigns for the holiday season.

Although the results remained the same across most demographics, Best Buy overtook Wal-Mart for the No. 2 spot among men and Midwesterners in the 18-to-24-year-old category.

The survey also showed the influence commercials have on consumers, with 16.9 percent of those surveyed reporting that their favorite holiday advertisement motivated them to shop with a specific retailer. An additional 38.4 percent of consumers said they had already planned to shop there.

Young adults, ages 18-24, appeared more likely to have a specific preference for holiday ads: 34.2 percent of them could name a favorite ad, but only 26.2 percent of all adults could do so.
