Marin Board Approves Master Bike Plan

MARIN COUNTY, CA—Marin County's Board of Supervisors at the end of May approved the County's Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan for all unincorporated areas in Marin Country. The adoption of the plan makes the County eligible for funds to implement recommendations in the plan. It is an important step

to creating the $50 million bikeway and pedestrian system. "This is a world-class plan that includes a system of bicycle and pedestrian freeways, Share the Road signs, bicycle parking, pedestrian improvements, Safe Routes to School programs and marketing plans," said Debbie Hubsmith, Marin County Bicycle Coalition's executive director. The Board also is applying for a grant to open the Cal Park Tunnel for bicycle and pedestrian traffic. The tunnel is one of several abandoned railroad tunnels that are an integral part of the bicycle freeway. The Cal Park tunnel would provide car-free access to the Larkspur Ferry Terminal.
