San Francisco 49ers Build Bikes for Tikes this Holiday Season

MORGAN HILL, CA (BRAIN)--Continuing a tradition of holiday giving and community support, San Francisco 49er players and staff partnered with TurningWheels for Kids to build 49 bikes for 49 underprivileged children at their training facility in Santa Clara on Dec. 19. The football team also worked with

Specialized and Morgan Stanley Cycling Team, who collaborated to provide both bikes and helmets for the children.

In a fashion even Santa would be proud of, the assembly day was followed by an evening presentation of the bikes by some of the 49ers themselves at San Jose’s Christmas in the Park. The deserving recipients were selected by CityTeam Ministries, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the poor and homeless.

TurningWheels for Kids is a non-profit organization that aspires to give every underprivileged child a bike so that they can experience the personal, social and health benefits of two wheels. As of the 2005 holiday season, TurningWheels collected enough donations to contribute 452 bikes.
