COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (BRAIN)—Steve Johnson, USA Cycling’s chief operating officer, is the organization’s new chief executive officer, the organization announced Tuesday.
He replaces Gerard Bisceglia, a marketing executive appointed in 2002. There are conflicting reports
as to whether Bisceglia resigned, as stated in the USA Cycling press release, or was abruptly fired and given no reason, as Bisceglia told
Velo News.
Johnson also served as director of athletics and as interim chief executive officer for a few months in 2002 prior to Bisceglia’s appointment.
Jim Ochowicz, president of the group’s board of directors, credited Bisceglia with “moving USA Cycling in a positive direction over the past four years.”
“Steve Johnson has the full support of the board of directors, and the organization will continue to move in the same positive direction that it has in the last four years. USA Cycling has a talented, committed and knowledgeable staff that will assure a bright future for our organization and we are looking forward to what lies ahead,” Ochowicz said.
