Profile Design To Buy Titec

LONG BEACH, CA (BRAIN)—Profile Design yesterday announced its pending purchase of mountain bike component maker Titec. No final sale date nor purchase price was specified, but the industry can expect to see 2006 Titec product in Profile Design’s booth at Interbike later this year.

“Our goal is to provide our customers with the best mountain biking products in the world, and Profile Design has always been an industry leader of triathlon and road biking components,” said Ken Wang, Titec’s general manager, who will remain with Titec under Profile Design. “Its been twenty years since we made our first handlebar and we think Profile Design’s production standards will help Titec continue to create the best mountain bike parts for the next twenty.”

Along with Wang’s expertise and Taiwanese contacts, the deal included some 2005 inventory.

“Essentially what they bought is the Titec name,” said Barry Smith, Titec’s new marketing manager. “Titec has had a great line, but they haven’t had anybody marketing it for the past few years.”
