Hayes Brake Gets New Owners, New Name

MEQUON, WI (BRAIN)--Hayes Brake's nine-member management team bought the company and renamed it HB Performance Systems. The management team purchased the company June 10 with private equity firm Nautic Partners from The Brenlin Group of Akron, Ohio. Details of the sale were not disclosed.

The company's new name better reflects its range of products, said Rand McNally, HB Performance Systems' president and chief executive officer.

"Our fundamental business objective of delivering high quality, technologically advanced product on time and at a competitive cost to our customers will not waver in the least with this change in ownership," McNally said. "As a matter of fact, having local control over business decisions will make us that much more responsive to our customers and the market."

Over the past five years, Hayes, which is known for its brakes, branched into manufacturing a variety of products and accessories. Future plans include expansion in the motorcycle, bicycle, power sports and off-road markets.

The company's business divisions were also renamed Hayes Bicycle Group, HB Motorcycle Group, HB Powersports Group and HB Specialty Products Group.

Rhonda Kirkwood will head up the bicycle division as vice president and general manager of the Hayes Bicycle Group.

Founded in 1946 in Milwaukee, the company supplies brands like Arctic Cat, Decathlon, Caterpillar, Giant, Harley-Davidson, John Deere, Kona, Polaris, Simplicity, Specialized, Trek and Textron. Its 155,000-square-foot facility in Mequon employs 350 people.
