USAC Names Los Gatos Racing Club Of The Year

LOS GATOS, CA (BRAIN)--The Los Gatos Bicycle Racing club scored USA Cycling's 2004 Division 1 Club of the Year award. This Northern California racing club has been honored twice with this award.

The 146-member Los Gatos Club was ranked the highest Division I club in

the nation.

"Most impressive were the innovative ways that clubs are encouraging new riders to join and excel in cycling," said USA Cycling's Lydia Bosch. "The huge amounts of time and dedication that club officers, coaches, parents, etc. are putting into improving riders' skill and health, and the ways that clubs are impacting the communities around them."

Division winners were determined by how well-rounded and active a club was in proportion to its number of members, according to USA Cycling. Judges based their decisions on the number of events a club held, outstanding competitive results, clinics and seminars held to benefit member education, and community related charitable events.

The town of Los Gatos will present a Mayoral Commendation to Los Gatos Bicycle Racing Club President, Barry Gordon, in recognition of the USA Cycling award and numerous accomplishments of the racing team. Next May 7 will mark the thirty-second consecutive running of the Cat's Hill race. Riders in the 2005 Testarossa Vineyard Cat's Hill Classic will race on the streets of Los Gatos, completing as many as thirty-five laps up the short and very steep 23-percent-grade Nicholson Avenue climb known as Cat's Hill.
