SPRING GREEN, WI (BRAIN)--The economic impact of bicycle touring in Wisconsin is approximately $4 to $6 million, that according to a recent study by the advocacy group Bike Wisconsin.
Bike Wisconsin organizes the state's two major cross-state bicycle events--the Great
Annual Bicycle Adventure Along the Wisconsin River (GRABAAWR) and Sprocket's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Wisconsin (SAGBRAW).
"Bicycle touring is an important part of Wisconsin's tourism industry," said Bill Hauda, Bike Wisconsin Director. "Wisconsin is a great state in which to cycle and events like GRABAAWR and SAGBRAW attract many people to our state. They provide a substantial economic benefit to the state and its communities."
The combined economic impact of the two rides, $3,710,580 to $6,184,300, was based on actual event budgets, which totaled $350,000, plus projected spending of participants over the course of the two cross-state events.
