SACRAMENTO, CA (BRAIN)--A week-long professional stage race will likely be held in California next year. Threshold Sports, the largest cycling event organizer in the United States, will help manage the event.
California Pro Cycling, the event's organizers, expect international
pro cyclists to compete, but have yet to say what teams will compete, or when the race will be held.
Former Los Angeles Mayor and State Education Secretary Richard Riordan will oversee the event and serve on the event's advisory board. He said the event could generate $300 million for the state.
Threshold organizes the US Pro Tour, which includes the T-Mobile International in San Francisco, the New York City Cycling Championships and the recently completed USPRO Championship in Philadelphia.
Organizers said they need to raise $5 million to stage the race.
