Hugh Walton Forms Axcent Sports To Distribute Descente

BOULDER, CO (BRAIN)--Industry veteran Hugh Walton launched Axcent Sports to distribute Descente clothing. Descente cycling clothing has been unavailable in the United States since 1995.

Walton signed a letter of intent with Descente North America to establish Axcent

Sports as the exclusive licensee and distributor of Descente Athletic apparel. Descente Athletic will offer cycling, running, triathlon and general fitness clothing. Descente North America will continue to sell it high-end ski wear.

Takeo Ishimoto founded Descente almost 70 years ago in Osaka, Japan. In 1953, Descente entered the ski wear market with its stretch-style ski pants. Eric Heiden won five gold medals in the 1980 winter Olympics wearing a hooded, yellow, speed skating suit.

"The Descente brand carries a tremendous amount of consumer appeal, cacheand credibility," Walton said. "Even after being unavailable for a few years, you still see Descente gear on bike rides, which is a testament to the quality and durability of the product."

Walton came from apparel maker Hind, which he left in July after five years as company president. In 1995 Walton co-founded Dash America, the licensee of Pearl Izumi, and served as general manager there until 1995. Kathy Stacy, Pearl Izumi's head of sales for eight years, joined Axcent.

Axcent Sports, which will be at Interbike, will not sell online or in outlet stores, Walton said.
