SOUTH GLENS FALLS, NY (BRAIN)--Serotta is organizing a manufacturer and frame builder summit to hammer out standards for proper bicycle fitting technique and practices. The meeting will be held May 16-19, in Saratoga, New York.
"A lot of theory and miss-information
is given out to consumers; a plumb line from your nose should hit the center of the handle bar, the handle bar should obscure your front axle and everyone should be in the racing position," said Paul Levine, Serotta's program director. "I don't think we will be developing any black and white answers like this but I hope we can decide general guidelines that can get anyone inside a good fit range."
Retailers have been requesting a consensus on fit so they can provide better fit in their stores and give feedback to suppliers on changes in frame design, Levine said.
"Skiing and golf have thousands of coaches and pros to help the customer make a better use of the equipment. In bicycling we have nothing like that yet," Levine said.
